Introduction[]

The chivalrous new member of the group, Abbey’s struggle with his troubled past sometimes shows in his behavior. He is kind and helpful to others, but if this Abyssinian’s moral code is broken, he can lash out.

Personality[]

Abbey was introduced as a main character much later in the story than the others. He debuted when he confronted a depressed Daisy, asking what was wrong. Very soon after his introduction, he joined the rest of the group at their lunch table and quickly became friends with most of the other characters, the exception being Paulo, as he and Abbey are almost exact opposites in the way they live their lives. This is what causes Abbey to have much disdain for Paulo.

It is later shown that he is especially fond of Daisy, as he worries about her excessively while trying to help her with her problems. It is only until later in the comic that he confesses his feelings for her. In chapter 95 "Love Again", Daisy and Abbey broke up because he believes Daisy cares more about Paulo than him.

In the chapter 108 "Time Out", Paulo and Abbey have a moment alone together after a particularly heated conversation, and come to an understanding when Paulo relates to Abbey's family issues and talks about his relationship with his mother (or lack thereof). The two talk out their issues and slowly work toward resolving their rivalry, as Paulo gets closer to Daisy.

Relationships[]

Daisy[]

When Abbey is introduced, he appears to have a crush on Daisy.

The two end up dating for over a year. They temporarily break up after Daisy gets drunk at a party, and reveals that she still has a lot of feelings for Mike. Paulo ends up getting the two back together (although in a cruel fashion). [1]

A big obstacle in their relationship is Daisy always coming to Paulo's defense when Paulo bullies Abbey.

They end up breaking up, permanently, after Daisy finds out Abbey assaulted Paulo, and she comes to Paulo's defense.[2]

Paulo[]

Abbey does not like Paulo. For most of the series, Paulo has been antagonistic to Abbey, calling him names and constantly teasing him.

Paulo pressures Abbey to get back together with Daisy

When Abbey and Daisy break up for the first time, Paulo tries to help get them back together, but ends up cruelly insulting Abbey in the process.[1]

In Guest of Honor, Abbey finds Daisy and Paulo attending a convention. He corners Paulo in the bathroom and elbows him in the throat. He tells Paulo he is a bad person, and to stay away from Daisy.[3] Paulo ends up avoiding both Abbey and Daisy for months.

After Paulo snaps at Daisy in Love Again, Abbey demands Paulo apologize. In response, Paulo reveals about Abbey's assault, and Daisy comes to Paulo's defense. In reaction Abbey breaks up with Daisy.[2]

Later, Daisy pressures Paulo to go apologize to Abbey for all the bullying he's done. Abbey refuses to accept the apology. [4]

In Fuel Economy, after Paulo offers to give Abbey a ride for a volunteering event, and Abbey questions why Paulo would do that for him. Later, Abbey approaches Paulo and apologizes for assaulting him. Paulo gives a genuine apology back, for all the bullying he's done.[5]
